Transitioning from Blogger to WordPress

April 1st, 2009 No comments

Greetings from London this morning!!!

Over the past month and a half I had a chance to use WordPress with some work I have been doing with Gestalt IT, got really impressed with the interface, the ease of use and the end result in terms of the output.

Lately on Blogger Platform there have been a lot of issues with blog formatting, the posts layout and primarily the feeds. I have been traditionally writing post in MS Word and then copying it over to Blogger. It has something to do with the XML tags that get copied over along with the rest of the formatting, causing the feeds to stop delivering content to users.

Then the size of the feeds started kicking in, where the limit is 512kb. There was a blog post I did about blogger feeds and feedburner feeds with the size restrictions back in Jan 2009. It was a nightmare anywhere you turn around with that platform.

Tried do some work around WordPress couple of weeks ago, first of all impressed by how easy it was to import the posts from blogger. Within an hour all the posts and all the comments from Blogger were imported to WordPress. Started formatting the blog layout, it was easy. The output looks great, creating new blog post is easy, the feeds work and no real big issues. Currently I am running the built in WordPress version, if this works okay then over the next 3 months will migrate over to a hosted version that will allow running various different plug-in’s, etc.

But looking forward to working on WordPress. Hope the users find the content interesting, easy to read and feeds delivered to their RSS/ATOM readers.

Sometime during the day today on 04/01/2009, the domain will start pointing from Blogger to WordPress.

My Absence….

I have been away from the Storage Blogosphere, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook for the past 2 weeks or so. Travel schedules have been so much hectic and so many scheduled meetings, its just hard to catchup with blogging these days.

Have to read all about EMC’s new Flash drives, the 200GB and 400GB,  I believe i had a blog post about it earlier in Feb that we might see them with the new generation of DMX5’s.
Need to catchup on Cisco’s UCS, I see everyone in the community has written something or the other about how UCS will play in this market.
Heard a few things about EMC’s Analyst day last Tuesday and their vision into Cloud.
And lastly, the rumor which now is the fact, IBM is pursing the acquisition to destroy the name brand SUN. Need to read what the views are, I did hear about a month ago, that a team of IBM high level executives have been visiting various SUN offices everyday through out the US. It was always in the planning….WERE YOU HOLDING SUN STOCK WHEN THE ANNOUNCEMENT WAS MADE??? Oh boy you missed it……
I guess a lots to catchup to do on the weekend . I did finish some technical posts on DMX4 and Clariion Technology last week, but haven’t had a chance to finalize it. Hopefully next week.
Schedule next week looks very tight as well, at least 3 customer meetings scheduled every single day for Storage Analysis presentations, new PS engagements and selling some solutions. The week after, planning to head to London for some new business that is being kicked off, some training and some business contacts to catchup with…..
Very interesting month of March so far, hope the same for April……oh and I still need to do my taxes.

Google Chrome Users and Non-Users

March 16th, 2009 No comments

For all Google Chrome Users, you will enjoy the following videos.

I personally started using Chrome just as a experiment when it was a beta release. Really loved it…have been using since then…..

Used Internet Explorer for the past 4 to 5 years, then Mozilla FireFox for couple of years and since the initial release of Google Chrome have been using it. Google Chrome has completely changed the overall browsing experience with its speed, search, easy of use, tab browsing, light weight, bookmarking, etc.

A very kool Ad of Google Chrome on Youtube…..

If you are not already using it, here are some features of Google Chrome……

The Story behind Google Chrome……….check out the fundamentals of browsing….

Benchmarking Google Chrome final version…..

After all this, if you think you are ready to make the change, you can download Google Chrome here.
Run it as test for now, use it for about an hour everyday to browse your favorite sites and see if you like it compared to your current web browser. It will surely take a little time to get used to
Google Chrome and its features, but once you like it you are not going anywhere else…..

March 11th, 2009 2 comments

Twitter…Twitter…..Twitter…..that is all we hear these days….Time Magazine has been following it and recently published a big article on Twitter.

Many of our co-bloggers, co-workers, friends, family and now our better half’s are following us on twitter these days…..

Brian Henderson has an interesting blog article he just posted as I started writing this article. Here is the link.

There was a good post by David Spencer: Seven People to Follow on Twitter, here is the link.

On this post I do not want to talk about the advantages, disadvantages, etc, but rather focus this towards a list of Storage Centric Folks that are using twitter today.

This post is a continuation of my previous blog posts about various Storage Bloggers in the Blogosphere and about LinkedIn and the Storage/Virtualization Groups.

Twitter these days seems to be one of those social media outlets where Storage folks are spending a lot of time and energy to learn and push some new products and technologies. Here is a link to my previous post on Twitter (A micro blogging platform)

A blog post from Stephen Foskett from Dec 2008 and another one from Christopher Kusek from Feb 2009 discussing some storage folks using Twitter…
